The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is strengthening its engagement with Boeing, the top US aerospace company, as it prepares to launch a new satellite to enhance communications services across Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, by mid-2025.

Trade Secretary Cristina Roque met with Boeing Satellite Systems officials on 4 March in El Segundo, California, to discuss opportunities for deeper collaboration in the global aerospace sector. The high-level meeting also focused on encouraging investments in advanced manufacturing and technology under the CREATE MORE law, which provides incentives to strategic industries.

“Boeing has long been a key player in aviation and aerospace, and we see enormous potential in leveraging its expertise to develop the Philippines' aerospace industry, satellite technology, and digital infrastructure,” said Secretary Roque. “With Boeing’s presence in our aviation sector and growing engagement in defense and satellite communications, there is much to explore in terms of knowledge transfer, manufacturing, and investment.”

During the meeting, Boeing Satellite Systems International President Ryan Reid provided a detailed briefing and facility tour, highlighting Boeing’s latest satellite technologies and their potential to transform telecommunications, defense, and digital connectivity in the Philippines.

Boeing’s planned satellite launch in mid-2025, expected to be operational by 2026, is seen as critical to the country’s digital transformation agenda, expanding connectivity and strengthening national security capabilities.

Currently, 10 Filipino companies contribute to Boeing’s global supply chain, producing vital components for its commercial aircraft programs and generating around $100 million in annual turnover.

During the discussions, Roque formally invited Boeing to explore investment opportunities under the CREATE MORE framework, emphasizing the Philippine government’s commitment to fostering a sustainable aerospace ecosystem. She also outlined potential areas of engagement, including satellite manufacturing and digital infrastructure development.

With a rapidly expanding digital economy and increasing global interest in aerospace investments, the Philippines is positioning itself as a key player in space technology and advanced manufacturing.

Boeing’s long-standing partnership with the country, dating back to its early collaborations with Philippine Airlines, provides a solid foundation for deeper cooperation in these high-tech industries.

“We are eager to continue working with Boeing to build a more connected, resilient, and future-ready Philippines,” the trade chief added. “Our focus on innovation and strategic industry alliances will ensure our competitiveness in the evolving global digital and aerospace arena."
