The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has launched an upgraded eTravel System aimed at modernizing border security and expediting passenger processing. The system was developed in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO).
The DICT’s eGovernment team worked with BI and other agencies to improve efficiency at the country’s exit ports by integrating the new system.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the updated system is designed to make travel processing more seamless while maintaining security. He noted that it aligns with the government’s broader efforts to modernize public services through technology.
One key feature of the upgrade is the integration of the CFO’s database with BI’s travel records, which is expected to improve monitoring of Filipinos migrating overseas. The CFO oversees the registration of departing emigrants to ensure they receive proper guidance before leaving the country.
Officials say the new system is expected to reduce manual processing, shorten queues at immigration counters, and enable real-time data sharing among government agencies.
Viado said the initiative reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to improve border security while making travel procedures more efficient.
The BI has been working with multiple agencies to modernize its immigration processes, with further improvements expected in the coming months.
