Alberto “Bert” David Lina, former Bureau of Customs (BoC) Commissioner and the man behind the Lina Group of Companies (OneLGC), passed away at the age of 76.
OneLGC confirmed his passing in a Facebook post on Tuesday, though the exact date of his death was not disclosed.
“As we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life dedicated to service, camaraderie, and compassion. We are forever grateful to our Lord Jesus Christ for blessing us with such an extraordinary leader and mentor. The Lina Group of Companies will honor his memory by continuing his vision of excellence in service and commitment to national development,” the company said in a statement.
From selling pineapples as a child to help his mother, Lina built a logistics and waste management empire that revolutionized transport, trade, and industrial support services in the Philippines.
A Certified Public Accountant by profession, he often referred to himself as a “kargador” at heart, believing in hands-on leadership and hard work.
His business acumen and people-first approach transformed the logistics, waste management, and semiconductor support sectors, leaving a lasting imprint on the country’s economic landscape.
Beyond business, Lina was a dedicated public servant, serving twice as BoC Commissioner and providing logistical expertise during national emergencies.
His contributions to sports, the arts, and veteran affairs were equally significant—he was a staunch supporter of basketball, cycling, and golf; a patron of the Manila Symphony Orchestra and Philippine theater; and a tireless advocate for WWII veterans, honoring his family’s legacy of military service.
He was also awarded the Papal Award Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice by the Archdiocese of Manila.
As the Lina Group of Companies moves forward, his family and trusted colleagues will continue his mission, ensuring that his vision endures.
Lucia Jane “Sheila” Lina will take the helm of key companies, while Sylvia P. Lina, April Rose Lina-Arboleda, and Donna May Lina will oversee other divisions of the business.
A funeral mass and inurnment will be held on 27 February, at 2:30 PM at St. James the Great Parish, Ayala Alabang Village, Muntinlupa, followed by a dinner reception.
A series of daily novena masses will begin on 28 February, with details to follow.
“No flowers, please. Instead, you may contribute to the causes he held dear,” the family said.
