PLDT Inc. just got a major sustainability glow-up — and the world took notice.
The Pangilinan-led integrated telecommunications company has secured a spot in the “S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2025,” a list of the best-performing companies worldwide when it comes to corporate sustainability.
And it didn’t just sneak in — PLDT made waves, earning the title of Industry Mover for achieving the strongest performance improvement in the global telecommunications services industry. With a 14-point jump from last year, the company scored 72 out of 100 in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), making it the highest-rated Philippine company and the only local firm in the 2025 Yearbook.
“PLDT is proud to be among the best companies in the world in terms of sustainability. We recognize that making a meaningful impact on our stakeholders is key to long-term profitability, and we are glad that our efforts have been recognized,” PLDT chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan said.
“Rest assured that this inspires our organization to continue pursuing initiatives that consider our environmental, social, and governance impacts,” he added.
What pushed PLDT ahead in 2024? The telco giant stepped up its sustainability game by implementing a human rights policy, improving transparency on human rights impact, refining its analysis of material issues affecting stakeholders, and further integrating climate and nature considerations into its business operations.
It also remained strong in key areas like risk and crisis management, privacy protection and information security.
“Inclusion in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook is a distinct honor, as is being named as the Industry Mover in the global telco industry. These affirm that PLDT’s sustainability roadmap is on the right track and in line with global best practices,” PLDT first vice president and chief sustainability officer Melissa V. Vergel de Dios said.
PLDT now joins an elite group of 780 companies selected from over 7,690 assessed across 62 industries worldwide.
The CSA, conducted annually, evaluates companies based on an extensive range of economic, environmental and social sustainability criteria — essentially, a high-stakes global report card for corporate responsibility.
For PLDT, this isn’t just about rankings — it’s a sign that its sustainability journey is setting the pace on the global stage.
