Meralco offers MisOr partnership

GINGOOG CITY — The Manila Electric Railroad and Light Company (Meralco) offerred a partnership project with Misamis Oriental Electric Service Cooperative II (MORESCO II), electricity provider of some parts of Misamis Otrental province to address the power woes confronting consumers and business establishments in its areas of operation.

The offer came in the midst of a power forum organized by the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental and attended by barangay officials and consumers, held Friday, 21 February, at the Arturo Lugod Memorial Sports and Cultural Center in Gingoog City.

A team from Meralco, headed by Atty. Arnel Paciano Casanova, chief of their External and Government Affairs, attended the Power Consumers’ Forum. Among the issues considered to be addressed are the delivery of service of MORESCO Il on high electricity rate, frequent and prolonged brownouts, and limited funding, which hamper its ability to meet growing energy demands, and generally address challenges on electricity distribution.

Atty. Casanova maintained that Meralco’s principles are uphold in the partnership offer, underscoring Mindanao’s vast potential for investors, owing to stable power situation and growth, making it attractive for economic development.

He also emphasized the advantages of Joint Venture Agreements with Meralco, including the company’s readiness to invest and the reliability of its services, and knowledge-sharing capabities.

MORESCO II acting general manager Edna Putian-Diango told DAILY TRIBUNE that due to their operation as a missionary electrification service, they are not allowed by law to distribute dividends, since they do not have share capital, but clarified that any sale of unused power or other excess funds would be returned to its consumers in the form of lower power charges.
