Cignal turned to Rose Dori-Aquino’s court savvy as it swept Akari in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-21, to secure the No. 3 spot in the qualifying round of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference Tuesday at the Philsports Arena.

With the victory, the HD Spikers improved its win-loss record to 8-3, while the Chargers slipped to the seventh spot with a 5-6 slate.

Dori-Aquino delivered an impressive 12-point performance built on nine attacks and three blocks.

While her contribution to the team was praised, she credited the unit’s cohesion and the coaching staff’s guidance for their continued success.

“Our motivation is to just keep doing what the team has been doing, and it’s really all about team effort. Kudos to our coaches for their patience and dedication to us,” said the Player of the Game Dori-Aquino in Filipino.

“We’re doing what needs to be done, following the coaches, and keeping our momentum going.”

HD Spikers head coach Shaq delos Santos emphasized discipline, preparation, and the right mindset as key factors in their three-game winning streak heading into the qualifying round.

“We stick to the game plan, prepare well, and maintain the right mindset — both coaches and players. Conditioning is also a huge factor,” Delos Santos said.

When asked about the advantage of having a smaller roster, Delos Santos highlighted the team’s commitment.

“The biggest advantage I see is the players’ dedication. Even though we are just 12, we are able to maximize each other’s skills. It’s all about the team’s mindset and making sure we get the best out of everyone’s talent.”

Vanie Gandler led Cignal’s offense with 15 points, including 14 attacks and a service ace. Ishie Lalongisip contributed 10 points, while Jacqueline Acuna chipped in eight.

On the other hand, Akari’s Faith Nisperos stood out with 12 excellent attacks but lacked the needed support to counter Cignal’s relentless assault.

The HD Spikers’ victory was sealed by a dominant third set with Gandler delivering a crucial kill to put them up 23-19. Jov Fernandez then powered through the block to set up match point before Gel Cayuna’s decisive attack closed the match at 25-21.

With their momentum in full swing, the HD Spikers look to carry their winning form deeper into the tournament while the Chargers must regroup to keep their playoff hopes alive.
