The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Tuesday reported a 21.71 percent reduction in eight key crimes for the first 46 days of 2025 compared to the same period last year.
From 1 January to 15 February 2025, cases of murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft and carnapping dropped from 852 in 2024 to 667 in 2025, a decrease of 185 cases.
Homicide cases saw the steepest decline, plummeting 50 percent (from 24 to 12), followed by rape, which dropped 41.57 percent from 166 to 97, while physical injuries decreased by 38 percent and murder cases fell by 34.62 percent. Theft cases, on the other hand, were reduced by 23.08 percent.
The NCRPO attributed the decline to intensified police visibility, ensuring 24/7 coverage of main areas of convergence, busy streets and alleys, business districts, and secluded areas. Mobile and response teams are strategically positioned to address emergencies and calls for assistance.
It also cited relentless operations against criminals, wanted persons, drug traffickers and other lawless individuals. The command adjusts deployments based on periodic assessments by unit commanders.
The NCRPO also reported improved crime solution efficiency, rising from 93.91 percent in 2024 to 95.84 percent in 2025, a 1.93 percent increase.
“There is no doubt that this consistent decline of crimes in Metro Manila and the increase of crime solution efficiency of NCRPO are results of the strong, consistent and dependable partnership between the police and the community,” said NCRPO acting regional director Police Brigadier General Anthony Aberin.
