The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is set to launch Science Pinas, a weekly show that will highlight science, technology, and travel in partnership with GTV.
Science Pinas will consist of 13 episodes, featuring hosts Mark Wei and Riana Pangindian as they travel across the country to showcase its natural resources and tourist attractions.
“Shooting from dawn to dusk, underwater, on mountain peaks and uncharted forests, but all the hard work is worth a thousand smiles,” Napoleon Juanillo, Assistant Secretary for Technology Transfer, Communications, and Commercialization said.
Juanillo added that the show will highlight the country’s rich resources while demonstrating how science impacts local communities.
The Science and Technology Assistant Secretary also hopes the show will emphasize the presence of science in the Philippines and showcase the diversity of local communities.
Riana Pangindian, one of the hosts and a science teacher, shared that aside from the adventures they experienced, the most memorable part was hearing stories from residents and local entrepreneurs.
“We get to interact with them, and most of them are thankful and are appealing to the officials to help their communities through DOST, their science and technology,” she said.
“It’s really for the people, we learned so much for our culture, and Science is really everywhere,” Pangindian added.
Based on the official trailer, the show will feature various products and destinations, including vegetable plantations in Benguet, giant clams in Pangasinan, and mollusks in Iloilo.
Glenn Allona, First Vice President for GMA’s Radio Operations Group, said this collaboration with DOST provides a great opportunity to “diversify and amplify” the network’s commitment to public service.
“Science Pinas offers a fresh and revolutionary perspective on what is to come and what can happen,” Allona added.
Science Pinas is set to premiere this Saturday, 15 February, at 9 a.m.
