An intensified cybercrime campaign is being eyed by the Department of Justice’s (DoJ) Office of Cybercrime and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as they engage in a possible partnership on various projects strengthening criminal justice in the Philippines.
The DoJ and UNODC intend to increase the government’s pool of digital forensic experts and boost the capacities of cybercrime investigators and prosecutors.
This comes as DoJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla himself highlighted this need due to the steady increase in cybercrimes and cyber-enabled offenses or incidents in the country.
Remulla, leading a small delegation of DoJ officials, is in Vienna, Austria, to negotiate the details of this partnership.
He will meet with UNODC Executive Director Ghada Fathi Waly at the UNODC headquarters.
The delegation will also visit the UNODC’s Crime Laboratory.
These meetings and visit will take place on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs, which Remulla is also attending with the Philippine Delegation.
