A moment of camaraderie and cultural exchange unfolded as First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos welcomed Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet, the First Lady of Cambodia, to the Philippines.
Mrs. Marcos, in her social media post on Wednesday, expressed her joy in welcoming Cambodia’s First Lady.
The two women, both diplomats in their own right, strolled together through the historic streets of Intramuros, deepening the bond between their nations in an atmosphere of mutual respect and friendship.
“Such a joy to welcome Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet, First Lady of Cambodia, to Intramuros today!” Mrs. Marcos wrote.
Mrs. Marcos, who has long been an advocate for cultural exchange, emphasized the significance of the visit, highlighting the longstanding ties between the two nations.
“We strolled through the Centro de Turismo Intramuros and the Museo de Intramuros, and shared stories of our rich history, deep faith, and vibrant culture,” she said.
The heartfelt encounter came on the heels of a meeting between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, where both leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
In addition to the tour, the visit featured a state luncheon and gift exchanges at Malacañang Palace, underscoring the close diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The Philippines and Cambodia have enjoyed a strong and enduring friendship for 67 years, built on shared values, economic cooperation and cultural exchange.
Mrs. Marcos highlighted this enduring bond in her social media post, noting how both countries have worked together in areas such as trade, tourism, defense and more.
She expressed optimism that Prime Minister Hun Manet’s visit would usher in “even greater opportunities for collaboration between our nations.”
“May this visit be the start of even more meaningful exchanges and lasting friendship between our two nations!” Mrs. Marcos said.
The Philippines and Cambodia have established 24 bilateral agreements in vital areas such as trade, investment, agriculture, education, tourism and communications. Both sides expressed hope for even more partnerships, particularly in tackling regional challenges and promoting regional stability.
