The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) has successfully helped over 600,000 household-beneficiaries to achieve self-sufficiency in 5 years since the 4Ps was institutionalized in 2019.

“As of December 2024, we are proud to report that a total of 677,658 household-grantees of the 4Ps program were able to become self-sufficient,” Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD spokesperson, said yesterday.

According to the DSWD spokesperson, households who have been assessed as self-sufficient have the capacity to provide for their basic needs, have stable income generated from either a permanent job or small business, have the ability to send their children to school, and are prepared to protect their households from sliding back to poverty.

“As a human capital development program, the 4Ps was also able to help 1,013,769 monitored youth to graduate from high school, while 476,289 monitored 4Ps children graduated from elementary, as of December 2024,” Dumlao said.

Close to 40,000 former 4Ps beneficiaries also became board passers with 65 of them topping various licensure examinations.

The DSWD spokesperson emphasized that the accomplishments of the program indicate the efficacy of the combined efforts of the DSWD and 4Ps grantees in prioritizing the education and health of children.

“Through the cash grants, the 4Ps helps address the challenges that prevent children from going to school, such as the lack of food and transportation allowance, lack of tuition fee, and poor health conditions, among others,” Dumlao added.

Launched in 2008 and institutionalized by Republic Act 11310 in 2019, the 4Ps is the national poverty reduction strategy and human capital investment program that provides conditional cash transfer to poor households for a maximum period of seven years to improve their children’s health, nutrition and education.
