The Land Transportation Office (LTO), in coordination with the local government of Marikina distributed 1,223 yellow plates to tricycle drivers on Friday.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the distribution marked the end of the license plate backlog for registered tricycles in Marikina City.

“We are inching closer towards addressing the motorcycle license plate backlog, and we attribute this to the full support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to finally resolve this problem, which started in 2014,” Mendoza said.

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro and Marikina First District Representative Marjorie Ann Teodoro led the distribution with LTO and local government officials.

The mayor expressed gratitude to Mendoza for honoring the LTO’s commitment to addressing the tricycle license plate backlog.

Last year, Marcos met with Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista and Mendoza to discuss LTO challenges, particularly regarding license plates.

The LTO, under Mendoza’s leadership, addressed the four-wheel vehicle license plate backlog after the agency began producing more than 800,000 plates in late 2023, just a few months after Mendoza assumed the top LTO post.

Mendoza expressed confidence that distributing the remaining yellow license plates for tricycles will help tricycle operators and drivers associations (TODAs) in Marikina City address colorum tricycles, similar to what happened in Quezon City.

Last year, TODA officials and members in Quezon City expressed confidence to Mendoza, as their earnings significantly increased after colorum tricycles in their areas were eliminated following the completion of the tricycle license plate distribution.
