MTIT Minister Abuamri Taddik  said the plan to advance and strengthen the BARMM’s textile industry was formalized following the signing of partnership marking a significant step towards strengthening the textile industry in BARMM.

Taddik said MTIT and the DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute signed the  partnership agreement  at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in  Pasay City on Friday.

“Through this partnership, our sector will address challenges by mapping and assisting our textile sector, strengthening the value chain, mapping and equipping an artisan with technical skills, and developing a long-term strategy a roadmap for industry growth,” Taddik said.

Taddik underscored the importance of the partnership and its potential impact on the Bangsamoro textile industry.

According to Taddik, the move will also generate job opportunities and promote economic development in BARMM.

According to Taddik, the textile industry in BARMM has faced several challenges from limited market access and outdated technology to costs in scale, training and infrastructure.

“Weaving has been more than just an art form of Bangsamoro and it has been a symbol of identity, resilience and transparency,” he added.
