Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the company’s quarterly earnings report, highlighting major developments in artificial intelligence (AI), social media, and AI-powered hardware.
With over 3.3 billion people using at least one of Meta’s apps daily, the tech giant continues to push boundaries in AI and infrastructure investments while solidifying its dominance in digital communication.
The 40-year-old businessman emphasized that 2025 will be the year AI reaches over a billion people, with Meta AI emerging as the leading intelligent assistant. “Meta AI is already used by more people than any other assistant,” he shared in his co-founded app Facebook, stressing that personalization will be key to its widespread adoption. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, Meta aims to develop AI assistants tailored to individual users’ interests, culture, and personality.
Meta’s AI push includes its next-generation model, Llama 4, which Zuckerberg described as an “omni-model” with agentic capabilities, designed to lead the industry. “Llama 4 is making great progress in training,” he noted, adding that the model will be natively multimodal and unlock new applications across Meta’s ecosystem.
Zuckerberg also highlighted the success of Meta’s Ray-Ban AI glasses, calling them a “real hit.” He indicated that 2025 would be a defining year in determining whether AI-powered glasses would become the next major computing platform or face a slower adoption curve. He cited past breakout consumer electronics, noting that many landmark devices sold between five to 10 million units by their third generation.
Massive AI infrastructure investments
To support its AI ambitions, Meta is ramping up its data center infrastructure. “We expect to bring online almost 1GW of capacity this year and are building a 2GW+ AI data center that would cover a significant part of Manhattan if placed there,” Zuckerberg revealed. He described this effort as a multi-billion-dollar investment poised to drive product innovation and American technology leadership over the coming years.
Zuckerberg reaffirmed Meta’s commitment to social media and the metaverse, citing growing usage of Quest headsets and Horizon Worlds. He also noted that Instagram Reels and Threads continue to expand, with the latter surpassing 320 million monthly active users and gaining over a million new sign-ups per day. WhatsApp, which now boasts over 100 million monthly active users in the U.S., is expected to challenge traditional SMS messaging.
Facebook, still used by more than 3 billion people, remains a focus for Meta’s long-term strategy. “I’m excited this year to get back to some OG Facebook,” Zuckerberg said, hinting at a renewed emphasis on community-driven content and engagement.
