Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island continues to show heightened activity, with a 900-meter ash plume emitted from its crater and 35 volcanic earthquakes recorded in the past 24 hours.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported on Sunday morning that Mt. Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 3, signaling the potential for an explosive eruption.
In the past day, 14 ash emission events were observed, lasting from two to 65 minutes each. The volcano also released 2,413 tonnes of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere on Saturday, further indicating ongoing unrest.
PHIVOLCS has strongly advised the evacuation of all residents within the six-kilometer danger zone around Kanlaon’s summit to ensure public safety.
