Two more police officers who were among those charged over the mishandling of the P6.7-billion drug haul in Manila in October 2022 have been arrested in Pasay City.
In a report Tuesday, the Philippine National Police said the two cops, with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and Master Sergeant, were arrested in the city’s Barangay 70 at about 7:20 p.m. Monday.
So far, 17 out of the 29 wanted police officers are now in police custody.
Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said on Monday that some of the 12 police officers who are still at large have already expressed their intention to surrender.
Manila Regional Trial Court Branches 175 and 44 have issued warrants of arrest against the 29 active and former police officers in connection with the alleged planting of evidence and bungling of prosecution of arrested suspects during the anti-drug operation.
The PNP has created Task Force 29 to go after these officers.
