The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, in collaboration with the Stratbase ADR Institute, held a lecture recently titled “Reinforcing Japan-Philippines Strategic Cooperation to Maintain Peace and Stability in the Indo-Pacific” at the Manila Polo and Country Club.
In his remarks, Ambassador Endo Kazuya reiterated Japan’s commitment to enhancing interoperability with the Philippines to ensure security, stability, and prosperity in the region.
He also stressed the importance of strengthening regional and international cooperation to develop a framework that sustains peace and encourages growth.
Dr. Kawashima Shin, professor at the Department of International Relations, University of Tokyo, delivered the keynote lecture, exploring the relevance and complexities of foreign policies in shaping international relations and upholding a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific region.
A panel discussion followed, featuring notable speakers including retired Rear Adm. Rommel Jude Ong, professor of praxis at the Ateneo School of Government, and Dr. Chester Cabalza, founding president of the International Development and Security Cooperation.
The panelists discussed emerging trends and implications of foreign policies, covering topics such as maritime security, the rule of law, diplomacy, and national security.
It was also attended by government and military officials, representatives from the diplomatic corps, members of the academe, media, and civil society organizations.
The event aimed to foster greater cooperation to achieve the shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
