The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, in collaboration with the Stratbase ADR Institute, hosted a lecture titled Reinforcing Japan-Philippines Strategic Cooperation to Maintain Peace and Stability in the Indo-Pacific on 10 January 2025. The event, held at the Manila Polo and Country Club in Makati City, underscored the importance of collaboration between the two nations in ensuring regional security and stability.
Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines ENDO Kazuya reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to enhancing interoperability with the Philippines during his opening remarks. He emphasized the need for regional and international partnerships to develop a framework that sustains peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
The keynote lecture featured Dr. KAWASHIMA Shin, a professor from the University of Tokyo’s Department of International Relations. Dr. Kawashima discussed the role of foreign policies in shaping international relations and upholding a rules-based order in the region.
The event also included a panel discussion with notable speakers such as retired Rear Admiral Rommel Jude Ong, now a professor at the Ateneo School of Government, and Dr. Chester Cabalza, founding president of the International Development and Security Cooperation. Topics covered ranged from maritime security and the rule of law to national security and diplomacy.
Attendees included government and military officials, members of the diplomatic corps, academics, media representatives, and civil society leaders. The forum served as a platform for fostering stronger cooperation between Japan and the Philippines, aligning with their shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
