DMCI Power Corp. (DPC), the off-grid energy provider led by the Consunji family, is set to increase its installed capacity by 27 percent this year, driven by the rollout of its first renewable energy (RE) project.
Christopher Thomas C. Gotianun, Vice President and Chief Business Development Officer of Semirara Mining and Power Corp., a DPC subsidiary, confirmed in a recent interview that the 12-megawatt (MW) Semirara Wind Project is on schedule to commence operations early this year.
Part of DPC’s 43 MW capacity expansion pipeline this year, the wind project is designed to supply sustainable energy for mining operations on Semirara Island.
Complementing this RE project are two 8-MW bunker power plants: one in Aborlan, Palawan, scheduled for completion in the first quarter of the year, and another in Masbate, expected to be operational by the second quarter.
On top of these, DPC president Antonino E. Gatdula Jr., in a stock exchange report on Thursday, said the company also secured contracts to supply 2 MW in Antique and an additional 15 MW in Palawan this year.
“DMCI Power remains committed to meeting the growing energy needs of off-grid areas. Our ongoing and upcoming projects aim to deliver reliable and efficient energy solutions that support national progress,” Gatdula said.
Last year, DPC saw record-breaking energy sales, delivering 491.2 gigawatt-hours (GWh), a 9 percent increase from the previous year.
The growth was attributed to rising demand in Palawan, Masbate, and Oriental Mindoro, as well as the full-year operations of its 15-MW Palawan Thermal Power Plant, which began supplying energy in August 2023.
“2024 was a breakthrough year for DMCI Power as we achieved record-high energy sales and ensured reliable operations across all our plants. The sustained growth in demand highlights our critical role in powering off-grid areas,” Gatdula said.
