US President-elect Donald J. Trump credited his administration for the release and ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas on Wednesday,

In a statement, Trump described the agreement as “epic” and said it was a result of his “historic victory” in November, which he claimed demonstrated his administration’s commitment to peace and security.

He expressed excitement about the return of American and Israeli hostages to their families and emphasized ongoing efforts to prevent Gaza from becoming a safe haven for terrorists.

“My National Security team, through the efforts of Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, will continue to work closely with Israel and our Allies to make sure Gaza never again becomes a terrorist safe haven,” he said. “We will continue promoting peace throughout the region as we build upon the momentum of this ceasefire to further expand the historic Abraham Accords.”

Trump highlighted the continued success of the Abraham Accords and advocated for achieving peace through strength.

He also suggested that the accomplishments made outside office preview what can be achieved if he returns to the White House, promising further victories for the US and the world.

"This is only the beginning of great things to come for America, and indeed, the World! We have achieved so much without even being in the White House. Just imagine all of the wonderful things that will happen when I return to the White House, and my administration is fully confirmed, so they can secure more victories for the United States!" his statement concluded.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani said the ceasefire and hostage release agreement will begin on Sunday, 19 January.
