The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) filed an inciting to sedition complaint against former Army Captain Clemente “Captain Dado” Enrique before the Department of Justice (DoJ) on Wednesday.
This complaint stems from Enrique’s public statements that allegedly encouraged an uprising against the government, according to Brig. Gen. Nicholas Torre III, chief of the PNP-CIDG.
Torre said these statements were reportedly disseminated on various online platforms, particularly during a manhunt for Kingdom of Jesus Christ leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and on other occasions.
“Today, I filed a case of inciting to sedition in relation to the Cybercrime Law against Clemente Enrique, also known as Captain Dado,” Torre said.
The complaint alleges that Enrique called on police officers to abandon their allegiance to the government and surrender their firearms during the hunt for Quiboloy.
Torre stressed that Enrique’s calls for sedition went beyond the bounds of free expression and crossed into illegal territory.
“You can express your opinion, but there are limitations within the bounds of the law,” Torre said. “That is why, in response to what we saw as a violation of the law, we filed a case with the DoJ so they can have their day in court.”
