Drag Race icon Trixie Mattel went viral over the weekend after discovering that a college in the Philippines used her photo in a post advising students to go easy on makeup for graduation.
Cronasia Foundation College, Inc., based in General Santos City, shared a social media post listing the “Do’s and Don’ts” for graduation pictures. Accompanying the advice to “Wear Simple and Light Make-up” was a photo of a female student alongside an image of Mattel in her signature heavy drag makeup.
Although the post was later deleted, Mattel managed to save a copy and shared it on her social media, sparking widespread attention.
On January 11, the college issued an apology, addressing the backlash.
“Our school, Cronasia Foundation College, Inc., acknowledges that the communication around the ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ for graduation pictures may have caused confusion and unintended frustration,” the school stated.
“For this, we sincerely apologize to the people involved – Trixie Mattel and the Drag community, our students and families. We also acknowledge that the use of certain words and punctuation was our fault.”
Cronasia further promised to revisit their guidelines to make them more inclusive and considerate, ending with a commitment to fairness and dignity.
Meanwhile, Trixie responded to the incident on TikTok, where she shared her reaction.
“This is an example of ‘Don’t be more concerned than the people it concerns,’” she said.
She clarified that she was not offended and found the situation amusing.
“I was not offended, I think it was funny. I love it. It didn’t bother me at all,” Trixie said, adding that she appreciated the apology but didn’t think it was necessary.
“I don’t think it was bad. I wouldn’t recommend looking like me for graduation pictures either, so thank you and love wins.”
The incident has since gone viral, with fans praising Trixie for her good humor and gracious response.
