CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga — A total of 314 checkpoints were established in Central Luzon as the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) mobilized 2,438 police personnel to enforce the nationwide Comelec-imposed gun ban on 12 January 2025.

According to newly designated Regional Director of PRO 3 Police Brigadier General Jean S. Fajardo, this is to ensure heightened security as the election period begins for national and local posts. She added that this is part of the simultaneous launch of checkpoint operations across Central Luzon.

As a result of these operations, 25 individuals were apprehended for carrying firearms. Arrests were recorded as follows: 5 in Bataan, 2 in Bulacan, 8 in Nueva Ecija, 6 in Pampanga, and 3 in Zambales.

The PRO3 chief emphasized the importance of public cooperation with authorities during checkpoint operations and assured the public that police personnel will adhere to established protocols and uphold citizens’ rights. Motorists are reminded to slow down, dim their headlights, turn on cabin lights, and respond promptly when approached by police officers at checkpoints.

“I have also reminded our personnel to remain courteous to motorists and strictly follow the general guidelines outlined in our Revised Police Operational Procedures,” Fajardo added.

The carrying and transportation of firearms, deadly weapons and explosives are strictly prohibited from 12 January to 11 June, in line with the election period. Violators face stringent penalties ranging from one to 12 years of imprisonment.

“The PRO3 remains committed to ensuring peaceful and orderly elections through strict enforcement of the law and proactive security measures.”
