DESPITE the glass encasement, some devotees managed to climb and touch the image of the Jesus Nazarene to the chagrin of church officials who prohibited such acts during yesterday’s Traslacion. Most of the faithful, however, contented themselves with handing their handkerchiefs to the carriage guardians who wiped them at the image. | Photograph by King Rodriguez for the Daily Tribune

Cagayan de Oro City — The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department has issued an advisory about a four-hour jamming of cell phone signals along the route of the “Traslacion” Thursday as part of the security measures for the yearly Feast of the Jesus Nazareno in the city.

Nick Jabagat said the signal jamming will affect the vicinity of Saint Augustine Cathedral, Velez Street, and Nazarene Parish along Velez Street from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday.

In addition to the no-signal advisory, the City Police Department has also deployed at least 100 rookie policemen to support regular PNP officers and force multipliers along the routes of the Traslacion.

This development comes as the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Northern Mindanao assured on Wednesday that there will be no overtime duty for officers, ensuring they are physically and mentally prepared for their law enforcement duties in their respective areas of assignment.

Police Major Joan Navarro, regional PNP spokesperson, said that policemen will only be required to work eight hours on a regular day, with a maximum of 12 hours during major events in the region.

“The maximum duty for PNP personnel is 12 hours to provide them rest and time for their families,” Navarro said.

Navarro also mentioned that PNP medical services are on standby to provide necessary medical and mental support for officers performing law enforcement duties.
