Moran to PFF: Don’t use Pinay5

Ivan Suing

Businessman Danny Moran wants the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) to stop using the Pinay5 monicker in light of the removal of head coach Vic Hermans from the squad.

Moran, who served the national women’s futsal team as team manager, said in a statement that the PFF must not use the monicker after Hermans’ exit from the squad.

The PFF announced yesterday that Rafa Merino will call the shots for the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers in Tashkent from 11 to 19 January.

“You are well-aware that you have severed your relations to the Company relative to women’s futsal resulting to your breach of contract with the Company. In view of such breach, you, or any of your directors, agents and employees are strictly prohibited from using any of the intellectual properties owned by the Federation with respect to Women’s Futsal,” Moran said.

“Therefore, demand is hereby made upon PFF to immediately desist from using Pinay5 in any current and future events under the PFF.”

After last year’s winless campaign in the ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship, Hermans was removed from the national team.

Then, team captain Isabella Bandoja, Demelyn Rollon, Lanie Ortillo and Mykaella Abeto all filed resignations from the national team following the Dutch mentor’s unceremonious transfer.

In 2025, 12 of the 14 members of the futsal squad trained at the Tuloy sa Don Bosco Foundation in Muntinlupa City to show the players that they are committed to their goal of representing the country in the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup.

Among that squad, only Alisha Del Campo, Cathrine Graversen, Samantha Hughes, Vrendelle Nuera and Kayla Santiago were included for the Women’s Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers this year.
