Valdez sees Creamline’s flaws

Creamline has maintained a pristine record after four games.

Still, the reigning champions Cool Smashers seek to address a chink in their armor as the 2024-2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference gears up for the resumption of action in two weeks.

The five-peat-seeking Creamline is the only squad left unscathed in the season-opening conference.

But the squad’s glaring number of errors committed remains a concern.

“One of the things that’s very evident has been our errors,” Cool Smashers skipper and former three-time Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez said.

In the four matches the Cool Smashers played, they averaged 24.75 errors per game, or almost seven miscues per set.

Errors almost cost Creamline the game in its last two outings against sister team Choco Mucho and vastly improved ZUS Coffee.

The Cool Smashers threw away 34 points off errors in a four-set win over the Flying Titans and then gave 33 free points to the Thunderbelles in a five-setter decision before the holiday break.

In its sweep of Petro Gazz and Akari, last season’s grand slam winner normed 16 errors in its first two starts.

“We have to contain and minimize our errors. So, I guess we have to make sure to double time in practice and be very detailed especially in addressing our problem with errors,” Valdez said.

“For sure, our coaches saw that, and we’ll address that in practice.”

The Cool Smashers still have a couple of weeks off before resuming their campaign against Capital1 on 21 January at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Then they will take winless Nxled on 28 January, Cignal (1 February), Chery Tiggo (6 February), Farm Fresh (11 February), PLDT (15 February) and Galeries Tower (20 February).
