CAAP marks 2024 milestones

Anthony Ching

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) successfully concluded 2024 as a year of exceptional advancement, marked by significant achievements in infrastructure development, aviation safety and regional and international collaboration.

In keeping with its goal of updating the country’s airports, CAAP has strengthened its strategic alliances with the private sector.

One of the year’s major highlights was the Laguindingan Airport’s successful handover to Aboitiz InfraCapital, which allowed for advanced development initiatives meant to boost passenger satisfaction, operational effectiveness and long-term sustainability.

Similarly, CAAP’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement for the Bohol-Panglao International Airport further exemplifies the agency’s goal of raising airline infrastructure in the country to international standards.

Additionally, the agency has started planning for the construction of the New Siargao and New Dumaguete airports.

In a major step towards improving air navigation and safety, CAAP and the Federal Aviation Administration signed a Non-Binding Air Navigation and Implementation Cooperation Work Plan.

To share aviation data and information, the Philippines also joined a multilateral agreement with Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

CAAP actively engaged in significant international forums to advance the interests of the aviation sector as CAAP director general Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo and Deputy Director General for Operations Captain Edgardo Diaz represented the country at the 28th Annual General Meeting and the 2024 Civil Air Navigation Services Organization Global ATM Summit in Azerbaijan.
