BINI conquers: Six reasons why 2024 was their year

Ann Jenireene Gomez

BINI, dubbed the “Nation’s Girl Group,” has captured the hearts of fans with their talent and charm. But, BINI didn't start out famous. Their journey into the spotlight is a testament to their hard work and determination to become the biggest pop act in the Philippines.

From performing in small venues to headlining major events and representing the nation on the international stage, BINI's journey has not been easy. Formed under ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy in 2019, the group underwent rigorous training in singing and dancing and was coached on personal growth and development.

Composed of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena, the group made their pre-debut in 2020 with “Da Coconut Nut,” a song that showcased their playful energy and youthful vibe.

BINI officially debuted in June 2021 with their single “Born to Win,” signaling their arrival as empowered, confident performers. As rookies, the group wasn’t afraid to put in the hard work, even walking the streets and handing out flyers to promote themselves locally.

Three years later, BINI has achieved milestones in the world of P-pop that no one had seen before.

Here are six reasons why 2024 was BINI’s year — and why 2025 will be their biggest year yet:

1. BINI’s vocal and dancing skills

The group has earned a reputation for their exceptional singing and dancing skills. Whether performing ballads or upbeat tracks, their ability to harmonize and deliver powerful vocals has earned them praise, especially for their songs “Huwag Muna Tayong Umuwi” and “Karera.”

With standout choreographies, BINI has set a standard for perfectly synchronized dance moves. Fans adore them, and many of their songs have become trends and dance challenges on TikTok, especially hits like “Pantropiko,” “Salamin, Salamin,” and “Cherry on Top.”

Each member also brings their own unique stage presence, further growing their fanbase. Their ability to connect with the audience during performances speaks volumes about the kind of artists they are—confident and powerful.

2. Collaborations and Partnerships

BINI has proven to be a versatile and talented group, and their collaborations with various artists and brands have only enhanced their influence and reach.

In 2022, BINI joined forces with Agnez Mo, one of Southeast Asia’s most successful and internationally recognized artists, for a BiniMo Remix of their song “Cherry On Top,” which has amassed over 600,000 streams on Spotify.

Philippine retail brand Penshoppe welcomed BINI as the face of its “ICON” collection. The group made a stunning stage entrance during the reveal in October, with each member wearing pieces from the collection.

Additionally, BINI graced the cover of METRO’s 35th-anniversary celebration in November. Each member had their own page in the exclusive print edition, featuring not just their iconic looks but also their inspiring stories and their unwavering determination.

3. BINI’s global breakthrough

BINI has also been steadily gaining global recognition since their debut, establishing their status as one of the frontrunners in the P-pop wave. From music awards to performing at the international stage, BINI is raising the Filipino pride with achievements across the globe.

They made history as the first Filipino act to perform at the 2024 KCON, one of the world’s biggest K-pop music festivals, held in Los Angeles. They also collaborated with K-pop group ENHYPEN through the TikTok dance challenge for “XO (Only If You Say Yes)” and with multinational group Katseye, dancing to BINI’s “Cherry on Top.”

The group won the prestigious “Voices of Asia” award in the Billboard K Power 100 at the Yeong Bin Gwan Hall of The Shilla Seoul in August. They also became the first Filipino act to win “Best Asia Act” at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Not long after, the group took home Best Breakthrough Artist and Best International Music Video for their hit single “Cherry On Top” at the 2024 Brazil Breaktudo Awards.

4. Million streams and chart-topping hits

When it comes to streaming, BINI has achieved major milestones in the Philippines. In Spotify Wrapped 2024, they were recognized as the top local group artist, alongside Pinoy rapper Hev Abi as the top local artist overall.

Earlier this year, BINI reached over 1.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify in March, becoming the first Filipino girl group to achieve this milestone. As of this writing, they have over four million monthly listeners on Spotify in the last 28 days.

Their hit song “Pantropiko” has surpassed 165 million streams, while “Salamin, Salamin” has over 162 million streams. Meanwhile, “Salamin, Salamin” topped Apple Music’s “The Best Songs of 2024” chart in November.

5. BINI core: authenticity

The eight members are never shy to show their authentic selves on and off camera. Fans love their vibrant personalities, which make their name even more solid in the industry.

From fun TikTok challenges to showing their playful side at events, BINI embraces their prime years as a renowned girl group.

Remember their iconic Noche Buena-themed looks at the Star Magic Christmas Ball? How about when the group just made the biggest clap-back in history when they wore Jabbawockeez-inspired airport looks in response to online criticism of their “arrogant” appearance? Apparently, they were “K-pop wannabes” when they concealed their faces with masks, shades, and caps. Well, BINi listened, proving that they know how to own the spotlight while staying true to themselves.

6. BINI beyond music

Beyond their talent, BINI members have shown their compassionate side.

The oldest member, Aiah, leads “Aiahdvocacy,” a love club project launched in September to provide support and blessings to people from various walks of life.

The group also collectively donated P1 million from their "BINIverse" concert to assist those affected by severe tropical storm Kristine in the Philippines, as part of ABS-CBN Foundation’s donation drive.

Unto 2025

Whether it’s talent, visuals, or personality, BINI continues to dominate conversations in the industry. Their journey from humble beginnings to national and international recognition reflects their significant impact on the Philippine music scene—and they’re just getting started.

Following their three-day sold-out “Grand BINIverse” concert at The Big Dome, BINI is set to embark on their “Grand BINIverse: The Repeat” world tour in February next year.

As BINI celebrates a successful 2024, 2025 is poised to be an even more exciting chapter in their journey.
