Alapag still with Kings

Former Gilas Pilipinas player Jimmy Alapag’s fate with the Sacramento Kings’ coaching staff remains uncertain after head coach Mike Brown was fired following their slow start in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Alapag, who is one of the Kings’ player development coaches, came to the Kings’ staff in 2023.

VP Global chief executive officer Charlie Dy told DAILY TRIBUNE also hasn’t gotten a word from Alapag on the matter.

“I don’t have any updates on Jimmy for now,” Dy said.

After his playing days in the Philippines and coaching staff with Alab Pilipinas, Alapag first worked as an assistant coach at Sacramento’s NBA G League squad, the Stockton Kings, in 2019 after accepting an offer from former general manager Vlade Divac.

The former TNT and Meralco guard was part of the Kings squad that clinched the NBA G League crown in 2021.

Alapag remained in Stockton until 2023 before he was called up to be part of the Sacramento coaching staff to join the two-time NBA Coach of the Year.

For now Alapag is still with the squad, now under interim head coach Doug Christie, a former Sacramento player from 2000 to 2005.

A video posted by Fox40 reporter Kirsten Moran-Kellar last Sunday showed Alapag in their shootaround before their match against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Christie remains thankful for Brown for sharing his knowledge with the staff.

“First and foremost for me, like, I got a massive amount of love for Mike, the fact that he kept me. I’ve been able to learn so much from an incredible coach, develop and continue to develop and continue to learn,” Christie said.
