The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has achieved a 97 percent digitalization rate after launching electronic tools on faster taxpayer registration and monitoring.

In a statement on Friday, the Department of Finance (DoF) said the BIR reported a combined 16 completed and piloted digitalization projects out of 27 initiatives.

DoF said these projects helped BIR secure P2.67 trillion in tax collection as of November, higher by 13.9 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

“The BIR and the Bureau of Customs have the huge responsibility to improve our economy and the nation’s future. Through their efforts, the government is able to finance and implement various projects,” Finance Secretary Ralph Recto said.

“Rest assured, we are working non-stop to strengthen the efficiency, transparency, and integrity of our tax system to inspire trust and compliance among our taxpayers,” he added.

Taxpayers can quickly create their profiles and update them using digital TIN IDs under the online registration and update system or ORUS.

The digital TIN ID is also accepted by government agencies, institutions, local government units, employers, banks and other financial institutions, and is verified through a QR-code scan using a mobile camera.

As of November, the BIR issued 470,387 digital TIN IDs.

BIR also the launched the enhanced Electronic One-Time Transaction System which eases the filing of documents and monitoring of taxes related to sale of real property or personal property, donations and estate.
