Ballet Philippines (BP) held its much-anticipated gala performance of Peter Pan last 6 December at the Theatre at Solaire. The evening brought together luminaries from the arts and culture community, loyal patrons and new supporters who share a deep love for the performing art.
The gala was a celebration of BP’s latest production and company’s legacy. Ballet Philippines president Kathleen Liechtenstein delivered a heartfelt speech honoring Eddie Elejar, co-founder of the company, for his groundbreaking contributions to Philippine ballet. On the occasion of his upcoming 90th birthday, the board of trustees paid tribute to Elejar’s vision and fortitude, which have helped elevate Ballet Philippines into the cultural institution it is today.
This gala performance, featuring choreography by Ballet Philippines’ artistic director Michail “Misha” Martynyuk, reimagined the timeless tale of Peter Pan with a new libretto, music, costumes and set designs, while remaining true to the classical discipline of ballet.
The beloved characters — including Peter Pan, Wendy, Captain Hook, the crocodile who stole the show and the hearts of many, and the loyal dog Nana — came to life on stage, delighting both young and old. Attendees left the theater beaming, with many remarking on how the performance evoked warm childhood memories and perfectly captured the holiday spirit. The evening ended on a celebratory note, with thunderous applause for the cast and crew of Peter Pan and deep appreciation for the shared artistry that brought the story to life.
Liechtenstein highlighted the company’s enduring commitment to bringing the art of ballet to more communities. This initiative, part of BP’s Ballet Brigade, underscored the company’s mission to inspire and uplift through the arts.
BP extends its gratitude to all those who made the evening, and the entire run of Peter Pan, so memorable.
Victory Liner for transporting the Aeta kids all the way from Zambales and Jollibee for their meals. Special thanks as well to Golden Wines for providing the exceptional Yellow Tail wine at each BP gala, and to Solaire Resort and Entertainment City for the thoughtfully crafted hors d’oeuvres that welcomed guests. The festive atmosphere was further elevated by the imaginative holiday attire of attendees, many of whom embraced fairytale whimsy in keeping with the evening’s theme.
With its artistry, outreach and celebration of community, the gala performance of Peter Pan highlighted the heart of Ballet Philippines: a commitment to creating unforgettable moments and sharing the joy of ballet with all.
