The Kaagapay ng Bagong Mamamayan-Samahang Damayan (KBM-SD), a nationwide coalition of bus transport groups allied with various non-governmental organizations, religious communities and Muslim associations, formally declared its full support for the Senate candidacy of former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Manong Chavit” Singson.
With an impressive membership base of five to seven million individuals, the group’s backing is poised to strengthen Singson’s bid for a Senate seat in the upcoming elections.
Romeo S. Baybayon, national chairman of KBM-SD, stressed the group’s trust in Singson’s ability to advocate for their causes.
During an initial formal meeting at Singson’s office, Baybayon expressed the organization’s confidence in Singson’s leadership, describing him as a principled businessman and politician.
“We decided to throw our support behind your senatorial bid, Manong Chavit, because we believe you can make a significant impact on the transport industry, religious groups, and Muslim communities. You’ll certainly be a game-changer,” Baybayon said.
Baybayon had long sought to connect with Singson and was introduced to him through this DAILY TRIBUNE correspondent and the meeting solidified KBM-SD’s commitment to mobilizing its network in support of Singson’s campaign.
In addition to KBM-SD, Singson has been actively engaging with various transport groups across the country. His advocacy for the Jeepney Modernization Program, aimed at modernizing the aging public transportation fleet while ensuring fair compensation and accessible financing for drivers and operators, has resonated with transport stakeholders.
Singson’s recent dialogues with other major transport organizations — including provincial jeepney associations and commuter advocacy groups — demonstrate his comprehensive approach to addressing transportation challenges nationwide.
He has also proposed incentives for transport cooperatives to ensure that modernization benefits all sectors, including marginalized drivers.
Among the many organizations under KBM-SD’s umbrella are Task Force Kasanag, Action Masa, Never Give Up, Agape, Martial, Philippine Rider, and Jesus Miracle Crusade International Ministry, along with numerous Muslim groups, women’s cooperatives, and religious sectors. These include the United Sultanate of Pasig, Kapatiran Muslim Women’s Association, and Al Khidmah Islamic Foundation Services Inc., among others.
The broad spectrum of support for Singson underscores his commitment to inclusive policymaking. His ongoing dialogue with transport groups and his efforts to bridge gaps between public and private stakeholders exemplify his proactive leadership style.
Singson and Baybayon are set to meet again soon to finalize strategic plans for their collaboration and to further outline actionable programs that will benefit the transport industry, religious communities, and grassroots organizations nationwide
