Fresh entry in the ride-hailing business Unified Transport Operation League (UTOL), a Filipino-owned transport network company (TNC), had extended its reach to Cebu, which is part of its mission to provide Visayas with a new brand of reliable and efficient transport services.
The entry into the Visayas market followed the successful launches in Iloilo and Bohol.
Cebu, one of the Philippines’ top tourist destinations, boasts a unique combination of urban development and cultural heritage.
In 2023, more than 2 million international and domestic tourists visited Cebu, making it a top destination in the country.
Its highly urbanized capital Cebu City, is a key economic hub, with industries ranging from IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) to trade and manufacturing contributing to its robust economy.
Existing public transport systems, such as jeepneys and buses, often fall short of meeting the high demand during peak hours, holidays, and tourism seasons. UTOL’s entry into the market promises to bridge this gap by offering convenient, safe, and modern transport solutions tailored to the needs of Cebuanos.
UTOL’s expansion also capitalizes on the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) initiative to release 600 slots for Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) drivers and operators in Region 7 which include Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
By utilizing these opportunities, UTOL aims to empower local drivers with sustainable livelihoods while enhancing the transport network across the region.
“Our drivers and operators are like family to us,” lawyer Orly Ocampo, UTOL’s legal head, said. “We support them by offering services such as car financing, insurance, registration, and legal assistance to ensure their security and peace of mind. Ultimately, we strive to make the process of joining UTOL as seamless as possible.”
This comprehensive support system helps create a strong sense of belonging and community within the UTOL network.
The UTOL platform is designed to prioritize passenger and driver safety through features like real-time ride tracking, a user-friendly emergency button, and accessible customer support. Additionally, UTOL offers comprehensive support for its driver-operators, including partnerships with automotive dealers and maintenance providers to ensure affordable and reliable vehicle upkeep.
UTOL invites Cebuano drivers and commuters to join its expanding network. Applications for TNVS operators are now open, with competitive incentives and support services provided.
On 6 December 2024, UTOL marked a major milestone with its grand launch in Bohol. The event, held at the prestigious Ivywall Resort in Alona, Panglao, showcased UTOL’s commitment to revolutionizing transportation across the country while paying homage to Bohol’s unique cultural and economic potential.
Having already achieved remarkable success in Metro Manila, UTOL is now setting its sights on Bohol with a mission to redefine local transportation. The company’s cutting-edge mobile app offers passengers a safe, efficient, and reliable way to travel while providing drivers and operators with a platform to grow and thrive.
