Bright future beckons La Salle

Mark Escarlote

De La Salle University may have lost the title following a heart-shattering 62-66 loss to University of the Philippines in Game 3 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball best-of-three finals series.

But it doesn’t mean that the Green Archers will be on a decline.

Itching to see action for the Green Archers are their impressive cast of recruits who are capable of leading the school to the title in years to come.

In fact, these recruits were at courtside to witness the heartbreaking loss of the Green Archers, fueling them to launch a fightback when the league holds its Season 88 next year.

Leading the charge is former National University star Kean Baclaan who boldly took to social media their desire to bounce back and bring the crown back to Taft.

“Babawi tayo,” he said moments after La Salle crumbled to the Fighting Maroons on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Aside from Baclaan, a gutsy playmaker who is no stranger to delivering when the game is on the line, also set to see action for La Salle are Mason Amos from Ateneo de Manila University, Luis Pablo from UP and Jacob Cortez from San Beda University.

The Filipino-Australian Amos is definitely a blue-chip recruit after serving as the main man of the Blue Eagles in Season 86 and suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas in various international tournaments.

Pablo, a 6-foot-7 slotman, is part of the champion team of the La Salle Green Hills before riding the bench for the Fighting Maroons in Season 86.

But the biggest addition will be Cortez, son of La Salle legend Mike Cortez.

The cat-quick playmaker led San Beda to the National Collegiate Athletic Association title in Season 99.

Even Kevin Quiambao believes that the future looks bright for his successors as they will join an intact crew led by Mike Phillips, CJ Austria and Henry Agunanne.
