Madrid has become the second Manila. Many Filipinos have found a home in the city and have decided to shuttle back and forth to Asia or for some relocate for good. The city is quite known for contemporary art and one Filipino is making a presence.
Filipino artist David Kauffman together with Martin Crawford (Scotland), Reggie Baxter (UK) and Areeya Pomsiriwat (Thailand), took part in a group exhibit that celebrated global talent at Kate Contemporary Gallery, entitled Endlessness. The promising artist, who splits his time between Madrid and the Philippines, captivated the audience with his evocative abstract works. Drawing from his cultural heritage and experiences, Kaufman’s art sparked conversations among attendees about the richness of Filipino artistry. Working from his Madrid-based studio, Kaufman bridges his roots with his contemporary surroundings, creating pieces that resonate deeply with viewers.
“I am incredibly grateful to be part of this exhibit,” Kaufman shared. “Art has the power to connect people, and it’s a privilege to share my work in Madrid, a city that values creativity and cultural exchange.”
The successful opening event drew a diverse and international crowd of art collectors, designers, curators, and enthusiasts from across Europe and Asia celebrating the universal language of art. The lively atmosphere of the gallery buzzed with excitement as attendees engaged with the artists and their work, fostering meaningful dialogue and connections.
The success of Endlessness is attributed to the unwavering support of Jack Teotico and Mia Marchadesch, who continue to champion the arts by providing platforms for talented artists to shine. The exhibit, which underscores the power of art to unite and inspire, remains on view until 10 January 2025 at Kate Contemporary, located at Calle Jorge Juan 64, Madrid, Spain.
