Selena Gomez has a lot to thank for after being nominated in two categories at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards.
The 32-year-old newly minted Golden Globe nominee is vying for the Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Film for Emilia Pérez and Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy for Only Murders in the Building.
“I don’t even know what to write… I’m so proud of @zoesaldana and I am so grateful and honored @goldenglobes,” she said in an Instagram story.
Saldaña is nominated alongside Gomez in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture category. Emilia Pérez is also nominated for Best Picture Musical or Comedy, Best Picture Non-English Language, Best Director Motion Picture for Jacques Aduiard, Best Female Actor Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Karla Sofía Gascón, Best Screenplay Motion Picture for Jacques Aduiard, Best Original Score Motion Picture for Clément Ducol and Camille and Best Song Motion Picture for “El Mal” and “Mi Camino.”
In Emilia Pérez, Gomez plays Jessi, the wife of Mexican drug lord Juan “Manitas” del Monte (Karla Sofía Gascón) who has privately identifies as female. An attorney names Rita (Saldaña) helps Manitas fake their own death so she can receive gender-affirming surgery, becoming Emilia Pérez.
Some wicked nods
Worldwide box office hit Wicked, meanwhile, got four nominations in total.
Wicked is gunning for the Best Picture, Best Female Actor Motion Picture for Cynthia Erivo, Best Supporting Female Actor Motion Picture for Ariana Grande and the Cinematic & Box Office Achievement.
“oh my goodness oh my goodness.... i am floored and honored to be recognized by members of the
@goldenglobes. crying (of course)... It’s impossible to find my words, but I am simply, so deeply grateful for this acknowledgement. and congratulations to my brilliant, dear sister @cynthiaerivo, and all of our Ozian family on this celebration of our work. i can’t possibly express my gratitution,” Grande wrote on Instagram.
Tony-, Emmy- and Grammy-winning Broadway star Cynthia Erivo is defying gravity with her lone Golden Globe nomination. She said, “Now that my feet are hovering off the ground, I cannot even come close to properly expressing what this moment means to me. Not just because of this individual nomination, but because I get to watch as this project and my
@wickedmovie family are celebrated, too. Being a part of this project has been a dream come true, and playing Elphaba, a woman who speaks to everyone who has ever felt like they don’t belong and lets them know they have the power to defy gravity, has been the honor of a lifetime.”
