Senator Christopher "Bong" Go emphasized the need for legislative measures to protect the dignity and welfare of Filipinos affected by calamities and emergencies.
Go expressed satisfaction with the passage of two laws he supported, aimed at addressing key issues faced by vulnerable sectors of society.
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. recently signed Republic Act No. 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, into law. The legislation requires the establishment of permanent, safe, and fully equipped evacuation centers in cities and municipalities across the country.
As the principal author and co-sponsor of the law in the Senate, Go stressed its importance in alleviating the challenges faced by calamity survivors.
He pointed out the need to address inadequate evacuation facilities, such as schools and covered courts, which disrupt education and often lack proper sanitation.
Go also touched on the financial struggles students face during emergencies. The signing of Republic Act No. 12077, or the Student Loan Payment Moratorium During Disasters and Emergencies Act, provides temporary relief for students with outstanding loans during crises.
As a co-author and co-sponsor of the measure, Go reiterated his commitment to helping young people overcome financial hurdles during disasters.
