Tiu targets Season 101

College of Saint Benilde head coach Charles Tiu insists he has an unfinished business with the Blazers as he looks forward to winning the next National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) men’s basketball tournament.

Moments after Mapua ran away with the Season 100 crown, Tiu said that even with his busy schedule with Converge and his commitments for Strong Group Athletics, he still wants to help out the Blazers clinch their first title since 2000.

“For me, I have the PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) and Dubai, but Benilde is my baby, and I really want to win with this school, one way or another,” Tiu said.

“I guess back to the drawing board. I really wanted to win now, but obviously, I’m still hungry to win a championship here in the NCAA.”

Since Season 98, the Blazers have been in the Final Four, including two finals appearances.

Saint Benilde pushed Letran College to the limit in their best-of-three championship series in 2022 before surrendering the title.

Now Tiu hopes this core, led by newly-crowned Most Valuable Player Allen Liwag, sticks around for Season 101.

“Hopefully, we can stay with this core again. I don’t know the plans of Allen Liwag and Tony Ynot — if they’ll stay or move on — but hopefully, they can stay,” Tiu said.

“We still have a lot of recruits. We just have to prepare.”
