Shear line triggers rainfall over NCR

The shear line is affecting the National Capital Region (NCR), bringing cloudy skies and isolated rain showers, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Sunday.

Meanwhile, several areas in the Bicol Region and Visayas are experiencing flooding due to continuous rainfall.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Ana Clauren-Jorda explained that the shear line, a boundary between contrasting air masses, is causing thunderstorms and rain in the affected areas.

In Camarines Sur, Governor Luigi Villafuerte ordered local officials to implement pre-emptive evacuations in areas highly susceptible to flooding and landslides.

In Cabusao town, rescue operations are ongoing after two residents were swept away by floodwaters from an overflowing spillway. Roads in Garchitorena and Ragay towns are also submerged.

Over at Sorsogon City, heavy flooding has made major roads impassable to light vehicles, prompting local police to advise motorists to seek alternative routes.

A landslide also occurred in Cajidiocan, Romblon.

PAGASA’s Sunday weather advisory warned of heavy to intense rainfall in most parts of the Bicol Region, Quezon, Mindoro provinces, Marinduque, and Romblon. Moderate to heavy rains are expected in Eastern Visayas, parts of the Panay Region, Laguna, Batangas and portions of Palawan.

The northeast monsoon continues to affect Northern Luzon, while the intertropical convergence zone is bringing moderate to heavy rains to Mindanao.
