The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday filed formal complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte and several personnel from the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG), including its commander, Colonel Raymund Dante Lachica.
Duterte and the VPSPG personnel are facing charges of direct assault, disobedience, and grave coercion related to confrontations at the House of Representatives Detention Center and the Veterans Memorial Medical Center.
Dr. Van Jason Villamor of the PNP Health Service, along with witnesses, filed the sworn complaint before Assistant City Prosecutor Rommel Delos Reyes at the Quezon City Office of the City Prosecutor.
The PNP confirmed that the charges pertain to "unlawful acts related to the assault, disobedience, and coercion that occurred during the incident."
PNP Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil emphasized the organization’s respect for the legal process, expressing confidence that the courts will conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the allegations.
“The Philippine National Police remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold justice and ensure that all individuals are held accountable under the law, regardless of their position,” Marbil said.
He described the filing of complaints as a "crucial step in the legal process" and assured the public of the PNP's full cooperation in the proceedings.
“The PNP continues to prioritize the rule of law and will fully cooperate with the ongoing legal proceedings to ensure transparency and accountability,” Marbil added.
Marbil reaffirmed the PNP’s dedication to serving with integrity and professionalism, vowing to uphold its duty to the Filipino people.
