The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) — in collaboration with Transport Canada and the United States Transportation Security Administration — recently concluded a three-day workshop on Aviation Security: Quality Control.
Held last 19 to 22 November 2024, the workshop aimed to enhance the skills of airport, airline, and national aviation security auditors in implementing effective quality control measures.
The training also focused on equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to assess the efficacy of security measures and identify areas for improvement.
By highlighting quality control procedures, the workshop sought to ensure that security standards are consistently met and that potential security risks are mitigated.
Senior Aviation Security Policy Advisor Jan-Paul Hanley from Transport Canada led the training sessions, sharing his expertise on evaluating security measures. Participants were also involved in infiltration experiments to identify vulnerabilities in their current systems and develop strategies to address them.
In his opening remarks, OTS Administrator Undersecretary Crizaldo O. Nieves highlighted the critical role of civil aviation in connecting people, cultures, and economies.
He also stressed that civil aviation serves as a vital lifeline, facilitating international relations and driving economic growth.
At least 21 representatives from OTS, Philippine Airlines, New NAIA Infra Corp., and Manila International Airport Authority participated in the workshop. By fostering cooperation and knowledge-sharing among aviation security professionals, the workshop aims to strengthen the overall security posture of Philippine aviation.
