Due to the tragic accident at Haneda International Airport that killed five people, PAL flight PR424 was delayed on Tuesday evening, and several passengers were stranded at NAIA Terminal 1 for more than three hours.

However, the PAL flight departed Manila past 10 p.m. on the same date, according to the Manila International Airport Authority, or MIAA.

After being closed for several hours due to the collision of a Japan Airlines and Japan Coast Guard aircraft, Haneda International Airport in Japan reopened past 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning, another PAL flight, PR422, was the first to depart from NAIA Terminal 1 at around 8:40 a.m. en route to Haneda.

According to the MIAA, the flight operation at Haneda International Airport does not have a significant impact on its passengers because the airport uses four runways.

NY sale welcomes 2024

Also, to help sustain the travel demand throughout the year, flag carrier PAL launched a New Year Domestic Flash Sale offering one-way domestic base fares for as low as P148.

The Tan-led air carrier said on Wednesday that the travel period covered by the promo is from 1 September to 15 December.

The continuing passenger travel growth has significantly helped flag carrier Philippine Airlines or PAL to rake in P19.2 billion of net income in the first nine months of 2023, up 166 percent from P7.2 billion last year.

PAL's operating income also ballooned to P24.6 billion from January to September from only P11.5 billion in 2022.

As of the end of September 2023, PAL flew 11 million passengers, which represented an improvement of 6.4 million in the same period last year.

With this, passenger revenues for the period also surged to P120.1 from P79.5 billion last year.
