The Philippine Statistics Authority has recently partnered with Grab Philippines and Move It to bring PhilSys registration services directly to drivers and riders during the culmination event of "Buwan ng Tagapaghatid" in Pasay City.
Around 8,000 of the platforms' "partner drivers" were able to register for PhilSys conveniently at the event.
"The PSA extends its gratitude to Grab Philippines for the opportunity to ensure coverage of drivers and riders providing transport and food delivery services in PhilSys. Initiatives like this allow us to implement an inclusive national identification system for all," said PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa.
He added that making PhilSys registration more accessible can help drivers and riders in transactions relevant to them, such as applying for benefits from social protection programs like the Fuel Subsidy Program.
Meantime, Grab Philippines head of Central Operations CJ Lacsican acknowledged that an accessible PhilSys registration can improve the welfare of partner drivers and riders.
The initiative by the PSA and its partners is a commendable effort to ensure that everyone, including those in the informal sector, has access to a valid identification document.
