Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Sunday confirmed that the city government is studying the possibility of deploying cable cars to ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila.
This after Belmonte said she had met with a French company that proposed the deployment of cable cars to ease traffic congestion in the city.
Belmonte said the French transport company POMA Group, which prepared a cable car concept for the metropolis based on consultations with the Department of Transportation had shown her their plan already after conducting a two-year study.
The POMA Group, she said, found that it was feasible to establish a cable car corridor along the Marikina River, Quezon City, and Pasig City.
Upon completion, the cable car system will connect the Light Rail Transit-2 station in Santolan and the Eastwood, Libis area through the upcoming Metro Rail Transit-4.
It is perceived to ease the traffic grind in Metro Manila, with some 30,000 to 40,000 commuters experiencing faster travel.
Belmonte also confirmed that the POMA Group invited her to visit the Téléo urban cable car system in Toulouse, France.
