Lacuna urges: Utilize improved health centers

The local government of Manila is urging its residents to avail of the free health services offered at its 44 improved health centers which include free consultation, check-ups, medicines, and referral to the city-run hospitals should the need arise.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna disclosed on Sunday that in addition to the regular free services, the city's health centers now offer new services like free laboratory tests and electrocardiogram.

Pregnant women in the city, on the other hand, can also avail of free ultrasound at the city's health centers.

Lacuna stressed the importance of check-ups in detecting illnesses at their early stages, when they are easier and less costly to treat and said that the local government has also launched a new online appointment system that allows residents to schedule appointments at their nearest health center.

The system is part of the city's efforts to improve access to healthcare and comply with the Universal Health Care Act.

Residents who are unable to use the online appointment system can still walk in to their nearest health center.

"Whether you have an appointment or not, you are welcome at our health centers. Come and experience our care and get free services," said Dr. Arnold Pangan, chief of the Manila Health Department.
