A 16-year-old Egyptian suspect has been charged over the killing of a Filipina migrant worker who was found dead inside the basement closet at her employer's home in Jordan.
Migrant Workers Officer-in-Charge Hans Leo Cacdac, in a social media post, said he had updated the family of caregiver Mary Grace Santos on the case's progress.
According to the police report, Santos was raped and strangled by the suspect, a co-worker's son.
"We honor the chance to update our dear OFW (overseas Filipino worker) family with respect to their pursuit of justice. In the case of slain OFW Mary Grace Santos, we updated Nanay Santos today about the indictment by the Jordanian prosecutor of the accused perpetrator," Cacdac said in a social media post.
The DMW has assured the family of Santos they will receive justice for her death.
Santos was found dead the day after her family reported to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration that she had been missing since 11 October.
Gov't vows aid to family
Santos left behind two daughters, aged 13 and 16. OWWA assured the family of assistance.
OWWA Administrator for Operations Mary Melanie Quino said one of Santos's daughters will receive full education assistance.
"There is an OWWA program in which one child of an OFW who passed away will be provided with special education assistance up to college," Quino said.
