Maynilad augments potable water supply

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. augmented its potable water supply by an additional 19.38 million liters per day or MLD following the reactivation completion of 20 deep wells.

In a press statement on Tuesday, the company said the supply boost will allow the company to generate a total yield of 32 MLD from groundwater sources by the end of the year.

With the additional 19.38 MLD supply, Maynilad now has enhanced capability to boost water availability for around 90,000 customers in Caloocan, Quezon City, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Bacoor, Cavite City and Imus.

"Coordination with local government units and several homeowners' associations is ongoing so we can facilitate the opening of more deep wells in the succeeding months.

Deep wells as option

Maynilad is also aligned with the National Water Resources Board on the opening and reactivation of deep wells. We are still on track to complete the reactivation and construction of more than 60 deep wells within 2023," Maynilad chief operating officer Randolph T. Estrellado said.

Maynilad taps groundwater as an alternate source of water supply, particularly during times of limited supply from usual sources.

To address the expected water supply shortage due to El Niño this year until the first half of 2024, Maynilad has allocated P1 billion to reactivate existing deep wells and build new ones at various points within its concession area.

The expected 32-MLD additional supply from this project by yearend will be enough to supply the water requirements of some 175,000 customers.
