The Philippine government will be assisting the Filipinos who have been repatriated from the Gaza Strip amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, a Malacañang official said on Wednesday.
In a brief message to Palace reporters, Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has instructed several agencies to coordinate with each other to ensure that the repatriated Filipinos receive the support they need.
"The President has instructed the Department of Migrant Workers, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority to provide assistance to the repatriated Filipinos from Gaza," Garafil said.
"We will be making announcements as soon as they arrive," she added.
Earlier, Marcos said that 40 Filipinos had been allowed to cross Rafah from Gaza to Egypt amid fighting between Israeli forces and the Hamas group, which has left thousands dead, including four Filipinos.
The repatriates are expected to arrive in the Philippines in the coming days.
