The Navotas City Commission on Elections filed charges on Thursday against a suspect who allegedly facilitated vote-buying in Barangay Longos, Malabon City.
The suspect was caught passing out white envelopes containing P300 to attendees of an alleged observers' meeting on Wednesday, the Department of Justice said in a statement.
Photocopies of ID's from residents of Barangay Longos, Malabon City, documents containing voters' information and a poster of a barangay captain candidate were also found in the scene.
About 198 witnesses provided statements that supported the Navotas Comelec's complaint.
The Navotas City Prosecutor's Office issued a decision finding probable cause to charge the suspect for violating the Omnibus Election Code on vote-buying and vote-selling.
On 25 October, the Comelec and Navotas City Police Station launched Operation Kontra Bigay conducted at Mega Sardines Warehouse in Policarpio St. M. Naval, Barangay San Jose, Navotas City. The authorities arrested an individual identified as Maribel Eugenio Policarpio who was caught in the act of distributing envelopes with money.
Also apprehended were 200 registered voters from Barangay Longos who were inside the warehouse when Policarpio was allegedly distributing the envelopes with money.
