The Department of Public Works and Highways is set to construct a boardwalk and a bridge in Oras, Eastern Samar that is envisioned to help boost the local tourism of the municipality.

The boardwalk and the bridge, which will span from the Oras Integrated Public Market and Bus Terminal to Basud Island, consists of a 150-meter boardwalk and a 20-meter hanging bridge. It will be constructed through the initiative of the local government unit of Oras.

Oras Mayor Roy Ador said the main goal is to make Oras a progressive town. "Some of our constituents visit Can-avid, Dolores, and other municipalities to enjoy tourism. But with this new tourism project in Oras, it is our time to attract our nearby municipalities and other tourists," he said.

Eastern Samar Lone District Rep. Maria Fe Abunda said she is confident that projects like this will bring in local tourists and will contribute to the development of the municipality.

"This is now the start that Oras will rise and be progressive," she told the audience during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project last Wednesday, 28 December.

DPWH Eastern Samar District Engineer Margarita Junia said that the boardwalk project can be included in the DPWH-DOT tourism projects in coordination with the LGU Oras and provincial government and through the support of Congresswoman Abunda.

Also present were the municipal councilors, different heads of government and municipal agencies, and other community groups who supported the initiative of the LGU of Oras to improve its tourism, which will leave a mark in the whole province of Eastern Samar.
